Aesthetically Appealing Building Integrated Photovoltaic Systems for Net-Zero Energy Buildings. Current Status, Challenges, and Future Developments—A Review

With the sharp increase in global energy demand, industrial and residential buildings are responsible for around 40% of consumed with most this portion being generated by non-renewable sources, which significantly contribute to warming environmental hazards. The net-zero building (NZEB) concept attempts solve issue, whereby a will produce, on-site, its required demand throughout year from renewable sources. This can be achieved integrating photovoltaic (PV) materials, called building-integrated (BIPV) modules, skin, simultaneously act as construction materials generators. Currently, architects builders inclined design using BIPV modules due limited colors available, namely, black or blue, result monotonous appearance. Therefore, there is an increasing demand/need develop modern, aesthetically pleasing green products use industry. review article presents current stage future goal advanced integrated systems, focusing on appealing their applications towards overcoming challenges stepping forward achieve sustainable environment. Additionally, we present summary outlook development systems.
